I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a minor in Special Education. Prior to attending Penn State, I first encountered “music therapy” on several job tests in school, but I was convinced I wanted to become a high school band director. However, during my practical experiences at Penn State, I quickly realized that I didn’t just want to teach music—I wanted to use it to improve the lives of others. I shifted my focus and tailored the remainder of my music education degree to prepare for a career in music therapy. This led me to Florida State University, where I completed my equivalency and Master's degree in Music Therapy.
After finishing my Master’s thesis, I accepted a position at a hospital, where I was immediately immersed in working with music therapy practicum students and interns. I also served as the National Coordinator for Infant and Child Medical Music Therapy, training professional music therapists working in the NICU. Though I had left music education behind, my passion for teaching remained strong. I found joy in sharing my knowledge and experiences with others, particularly within the field of music therapy, where I was constantly driven by a deep curiosity and desire to help others learn.
In 2020, I made the transition from the medical setting to private practice, where I continued to nurture my passion for teaching by developing an internship program and supervising practicum students. At the same time, I learned the ins-and-outs of running a small business. I participated in the Run Like Clockwork program, helping to systematize the company and support the executive team during a maternity leave. This experience gave me a comprehensive understanding of private practice, from clinical work to administrative operations.
Currently, I serve as a faculty member in the Music Therapy Program at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where I teach a variety of undergraduate courses and provide clinical supervision. My focus is on bridging theory and practice, helping students develop a deep understanding of music therapy techniques, therapeutic processes, and how to apply music in clinical settings.
With over ten years of experience in the field, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse populations and have seen firsthand how music therapy can benefit individuals in a variety of settings. I’ve also identified areas where music therapists need additional support or education, and it’s here that my passion for teaching and professional development finds its home—through my work with DO Well Insights. I’m dedicated to empowering fellow music therapists and healthcare professionals by sharing the knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful impact in the field.
