Educational Psychology in Music Therapy

This 3 credit CMTE course will provide an overview of 5 major educational psychology theories - providing valuable insights into how individuals learn, develop, and respond to stimuli.

You will be provided opportunities to apply the information to hypothetical scenarios, develop approach-specific session plans, and hear from a dual-certified Music Therapist and Educational Psychologist to assist in music therapy advocacy.

By understanding learning processes, music therapists can tailor approaches to foster development, communication, and behavioral change in clients.

Course objectives:

  • Therapists will identify 5 major learning theories and their relevance to music therapy practice.

  • Therapists will develop at least 3 music therapy session plans utilizing the 4 music therapy methods and learned educational theories.

  • Therapists will utilize the learning theories to develop an advocacy plan. 

Educational Psychology in Music Therapy is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 3 credit(s).
